Administrative building of the university

The University is known for its highly acclaimed Cultural team, which have not only proven their worth in various competitions all over Tamil Nadu, but have also pulled off some of the best events at SASTRA itself. The Cult team has seen only success wherever they have been to, be it NIT Trichy's Festember (where they have a ten year winning streak), CMC Vellore's Pegasus or VIT's Rivera.

Kurukkusastra

In 2006, the Cult team, backed by the Dean of Planning & Development, Dr. S. Vaidhyasubramaniam GMP(Harvard), revived the intra-college cultural fests that were once held in the past. The name suggested by the students, "Carpe Diem", to invoke one's talents and seize the day, was chosen by the Dean, over his own suggestion of "Kuruksastra", a portmanteau of Kurukshetra, the site of the legendary war mentioned in the Indian epic Mahabharata, and SASTRA.

Carpe Diem '06 was a huge success, followed by Carpe Diem '07. After two years of intra-college fests, the University decided to conduct its first ever inter-college fest, and went with the name originally suggested by the Dean: Kuruksastra.

Kuruksastra is a war of talent in the various competitions. Events at the fest include English Literary events, Telugu, Hindi and Tamil events, Arts, Music, Dance, Dramatics and Gaming.

At the same time, the University's first inter-college technical fest, Daksh was also conducted. It was a week long event( actually weekend (Fri-Sat-Sun)), starting with Daksh and ending with KurukSastra.

The first edition of Kuruksastra was held on March 2 and 3, 2009.It started the tradition of hosting musical celebrities for a "Pro Nite" show. Singers such as Karthik, Naresh Iyer, Benny Dayal and Shankar Mahadevan have graced the stage of KS and enthralled the crowd of enthusiastic fans. The second edition of Kuruksastra was held from March 6 to 9, 2008, and had over 1200 participants, making it one of the largest such festivals in the country.
